5 STAR ANTRIM HOUSE BED AND BREAKFAST, COUNTY ANTRIM
Wilson McMullen Architects were asked to provide a new build concept for additional self-catering holiday accommodation ancillary to the current provision associated with the Antrim House bed and breakfast in Portrush town centre. Following extensive dialogue with the council and planning department, a sensitive insertion into the streetscape was developed that would add 5 star accommodation onto the existing bed and breakfast provision.
The scheme consists of 2 self contained ensuite bedrooms on ground floor with their own independent entrances with a further private first floor suite with rooftop balcony overlooking Portrush Town Hall.
The scheme utilises the existing stone wall that surrounds the site, as its base, which helps ground the building in its context. A simple and modern aesthetic is sympathetic and honest to its surrounding context and historic neighbour, in the town hall.
The project received planning permission in 2015 and was completed in 2016.
