Zinc Roofed House Extension, Doagh

SELF-BUILD-FRONT-COVERdoagh-modern-extensionzinc-cedar-master-bedroomThis project came about following an “Architect My House” consultation in 2012 which featured in Local Women Magazine.

This extension proposes to remove the existing single storey glazed sunroom to the rear of the house and build a two storey rear extension in its place. The extension takes the form of a new sunroom on the ground floor which will open up to the existing kitchen and dining spaces to make a large open plan space. On the first floor a master bedroom suite will be created with ensuite.

The extensions form is traditional but the materials proposed and the aesthetic is modern. The gable will be fully glazed with two sets of sliding folding doors that will open up the rear of the house to its garden and terrace area. The roof cantilevers out to provide solar shade while maximising views and gives the extension a more dramatic appearance. Zinc roofing with a slated timber soffit, aluminium windows and doors and a glazed ballustrade complete the materials list.
