House Extension, Portrush

This was a project resulting from a consultation during ARCHITECT MY HOUSE 2010. The client wanted some ideas in regard to extending the existing living space of the house to connect better with the garden and remodelling the front entrance. A dining room extension was proposed which stepped down from the existing living area and opened up to the garden through a set of sliding folding doors. This allows the room to be completely opened up to the outside.

Level access between the internal extension and external raised decking helps to make the transition between inside and outside more fluid. The client also wanted to have a cantilevered Bris-soliel to filter the South light into the extension and help create a sense of enclosure to the terrace area.

A Clever and well thought out lighting scheme helps to bring the space to life at night offering different lighting schemes for different occassions and moods.

The client was very happy with the end result commenting that

“We took Ben up on his “Architect My House” fundraiser to see if our extension plans for our own home were feasible, both from a creative and practical perspective. We found Ben to be very professional and approachable and he gave us sound impartial advice and inspiration for our extension. Following the initial meeting we then worked with Ben on realising the project, which we have to say has exceeded all our expectations. We love our extension and support fully the “Architect My House” fundraiser for the RNLI.”
