Eco Friendly Garden Room, Portrush

This project is for a local client who was keen to build an Eco Friendly garden room for the family to use and entertain in within his existing garden.

The site is located at the bottom of the clients garden where there is most sun. The Garden room faces South and West to maximise afternoon and evening sun, encouraging its use on the long summer evenings for barbecues, entertaining and just spending quality time with the family. In the winter it may also be used as a home office.

The building was initially proposed to be constructed out of Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs), which are a highly efficient thermal construction, with a Sedum roof, however this was substituted for traditional masonry construction and a Trocal roofing system to reduce costs. The Garden room has a set of high specification sliding doors and windows to retain heat and is clad in Western Red Cedar.

The building is simple in form and construction and aims to bring delight and surprise to its users.
