Contemporary House Renovation, Derry / Londonderry

The client had considered renovating their existing Kitchen / Dining space and small sitting area for some time before taking advantage of our “Architect My House” fundraiser for the RNLI. They wanted to connect their existing Kitchen / Dining space with their small living space by opening up into one large open plan space. This meant that they could all be together within one room allowing the person in the kitchen to be part of the conversation while entertaining family and friends. The ultimate aim was to create a more sociable and family friendly space!

After our initial free consultation, the client felt confident to move forward with the project. The renovation involved taking out the old kitchen, knocking through between rooms and opening the space out to the external rear terrace with the insertion of two sets of bi-folding doors. The later of these made the most difference to the space by increasing the visual and physical connection with the outsdie space, as well as bathing the kitchen and snug in warm sunlight. Additionally the space was also re-plumbed for feature radiators, a new Kitchen was  installed, new tiled floor laid, existing doors were renewed with glass doors to improve the connection with the main hallway and the space was redecorated.

The client was very happy with the final result which they felt had exceeded their expectations.

“With no previous experience of a building project and a limited budget, we felt that it was essential to have an architect that would guide us step by step through all the stages from planning to completion.  As it turned out we could not have made a better choice when we engaged Wilson McMullen Architects.

The service we received was truly impressive.  Ben provided an extremely professional but friendly service.  He took a lot of trouble to find good quality products and materials that would keep the project within budget and give us the best design possible.  His excellent communication skills and liaison with all those involved meant that we were always in the picture and the work progressed smoothly.

More importantly, he was always available to us and proved invaluable in representing our interests in discussions with the builder.   As it happened, there were no major problems, thanks to the thoroughness of Ben’s preparation and his attention to detail.  However, we always had the reassurance of knowing that we had someone who was on our side and could deal professionally with any unexpected issues which might arise.

We would definitely use Wilson McMullen Architects again and would recommend them without hesitation. ” Yvonne & Ken
